Birthday Wrap Up…

Monday, March 30th, 2009

I realize I’m 2 days behind on this, but I am still dealing with the aftermath of the birthday party. It was a fun day all around. We rented a spacewalk, mainly for the adults to play in, but hoped Kayla would enjoy it too. She did indeed, she played in it all day. It was difficult to tear her away from it for cake and presents.

We were worried about the weather since it had been so bad the previous days, the yard was a little wet, but not bad. And it was chilly Saturday, but still a beautiful day. Wes grilled burgers and hot dogs, and I made Blues Clues Cupcakes, Lemon and Chocolate. I still haven’t tried a chocolate one, but I think the lemon cupcakes might have been my best cupcakes ever. I’ll definitely be making those again.

Kayla got lots of goodies. This was the fist time she’s really opened presents. There was tissue flying and cards being thrown and stuff was mixed up. So, I hope I get the thank you cards right. She’s been playing with all her toys and she got some really cute clothes, but I have to say, the Magna-doodle is a hit. She has been doodling like crazy. So thank you Dat :) She also loves her table set from Nana. It’s just her size. She can sit and eat or color or whatever. We have to watch Prissy though, she likes to steal Kayla’s food.

The Pinata was a one man show, since there weren’t any little kids there to pull a string. We let Kayla take a couple wacks at it, then pulled all the candy out. Then Hannah and Dave finished it off with a baseball bat. Poor Blue, hope Kayla doesn’t have nightmares about that, lol.

But anyway, it was a lot of fun. And I’m just floored that my little Kayla is 2 years old. Time really flies by. It seems like we just had her 1st birthday party. She’s definitely growing up fast. It’s going to be a fun year though. Lots of milestones ahead. I just hope these “Terrible Two’s”, are just a myth.  I guess that’s it, I need to get back to cleaning what I can while she is taking a nap.

Full weekend…

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Haven’t posted in a while so I thought I’d just wrap up the weekend with a post. Friday night Wes and I had date night, went to Voodoo BBQ, which by the way has awesome brisket and pulled pork. We didn’t have a plan when we left the house, which is always dangerous, because you never know where we will end up. We ended up at State Capital Raceway. Not racing, just watching some of Wes’ friends. It’s really nice to enjoy the afternoons while the mosquitoes aren’t out yet.

Saturday, Holly, Annette and I had a garage sale. Always fun but exhausting. Had to wake up at 5:30am to start hauling junk outside under the carport. I am not a morning person, and I don’t drink caffeine, so early hours are a little rough. So when you are already a little on edge and someone tries to negotiate price on something marked 25¢, it takes a little grace to be pleasant. You meet some interesting characters at garage sales though. The last garage sale Holly and I had, there was this guy that came by and bought some cd’s and then went back to his truck and got his guitar, sat in the middle of the carport and played and sang for us and all the other shoppers. He even left us with some of his own cd’s when he left. Wes labeled him in iTunes as the, “Garage Sale Gangster”.

Oh and I have to tell you that Wes made a coffee and donut run for us yesterday, and even bought me a copy of Twilght. Now, that is love. He said there were some, “interesting” , girls outside waiting to get their copy.

Today, I met the girls for some Laser Tag. That is more of a workout than you think. Running up and down those ramps and crawling around. It’s a lot of fun, even though I was not that great at it. I was relieved that they give you nicknames, so that they don’t advertise your actual name at the bottom of the board. Seriously though, in one game, I had to control myself from pistol whipping some kid. I’d say about 9 years old. He was my shadow. He only killed me. I would run and he would follow me and as soon as my vest would come back online, he would shoot me again and he would go, “Haha, I got you again!”

After that we headed over to Capital City Grill, but to our surprise, it was closed, with chains on the doors. Does anyone have any information about this? Are they remodeling? Closed for good? We ended up at Chimes where they do not have sweet tea. LOL, ( you had to be there).  It was a blast, I love getting out of the house and hanging out with adults. So I guess that is it, just rambling on now.

Kayla vs The Fireplace

Friday, March 13th, 2009

Wes and I were sitting at Starbucks tonight, having a little date night, when we got one of those phone calls you don’t want to get. Kayla was doing her spinning airplane move and fell and hit her head on the brick fireplace. We met her and Nana and the rest of the crew at Lake After Hours on Oneal. When we got there, Kayla was running around the waiting room, ( she and Nana both covered in blood), talking to people and digging in the candy machines. She had no idea what was to come.

She did not care for the local anesthetic, but mainly didn’t like being held down. While we were waiting for it to do its magic, Kayla was playing Dr.

3353056634_1bbb646f27.jpg

Then came the worse part, having to hold her down while they sewed her back together.  I have never had stitches, but I’d  take them any day, than have to hold her down again.

A few tears and 5 stitches later, we’re headed home and enjoying a much deserved lollipop. Now we get to repeat in 1 week when we go to get them taken out.

Her glasses have seen better days. I just hope the warranty covers 2 year olds. My poor Kayla :(

Something to think about…

Friday, March 13th, 2009

I saw this video earlier in the week and I just can’t get it out of my head. I’m not usually a video thief, but I’m going to re-post it for those who haven’t seen it. Here is an avid Atheist, talking about a Christian that reached out to him. This encounter didn’t change his outlook on Christianity, Heaven & Hell, but I think it changed his outlook on Christians. We’re not the stereotypical lunatics that the media make us out to be.

He make a very profound statement here, he talks about someone who believes there in eternal life and not sharing it with everyone. He compares it to him knowing there was a bus that was going to hit you, he would tackle you. This is the quote that got me, ” How much to you have to hate someone not to prosteltize. How much do you have to hate someone to believe that everlasting life is possible and not tell them that.”I know there are relationships in my life, that I have not pushed the issue, simply because I didn’t want it to be, ” Socially Awkward.” I always thought that living my life and keeping true to my values would be a light to the people in my life. I don’t know how much I believe that anymore. It’s just one of those things that make you go hmmmmmm.

I’ve kept this quote / poem, whatever you want to call it, handy for some time now.  Mike Haman used to quite this at Crosswalk, back in the day.  I loved to hear him read it, because he emphasized it with such passion. Much like the way he lives his life and loves others. So passionate about life and Jesus and reaching out to others. He’s one of those people that you just want to be around.  Anyway, I think it fits here with what I’m trying to say. It’s one of those statements that makes you want to strive for more, be better, live better.  I know that my blogs are usually not very deep, so thanks for hanging with me. This was my A-ha moment today.

I am part of the “Fellowship of the Unashamed.”
The die has been cast. I have stepped over the line.
The decision has been made. I am a disciple of
Jesus Christ. I won’t look back, let up, slow down,
back away, or be still. My past is redeemed, my present
makes sense, and my future is secure.

I am finished and done with low living, sight walking,
small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams,
chintzy giving, and dwarfed goals.

I no longer need pre-eminence, prosperity, position,
promotions, plaudits, or popularity. I now live by
presence, lean by faith, love by patience,
lift by prayer, and labor by power. My pace
is set, my gait is fast, my goal is Heaven, my
road is narrow, my way is rough, my companions few,
my Guide reliable, my mission clear. I cannot be bought,
compromised, deterred, lured away, turned back,
diluted, or delayed.

I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the
presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy,
ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander
in the maze of mediocrity.

I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. I must go until
Heaven returns, give until I drop, preach until all know,
and work until He comes. And when He comes to get
His own, He will have no problem recognizing me.
My colors will be clear.

I am not ashamed of the gospel . . . Romans 1:16

It was a good day…

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

A year older a year wiser, ok, maybe not. I turned 26 today, which also happens to be my favorite number, so I am expecting this to be a very good year :) I had a great day. My BFF Annette took me out to lunch and showered me with gifts. Then shopping and dinner with Wes and Kayla. By the way, this was the #1 song on the day I was born, March 10, 1983.

March 10,1876 – Alexander Graham Bell makes the first successful telephone call by saying “Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you.”

Just for fun, here are some other people that were born on March 10th:

Chuck Norris  1940

Osama Bin laden 1957

Carrie Underwood 1983 ( Same day, woohoo!)

Stranded…

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

I’m stuck at home today because Wes stole my car. He left me his, but everyone knows he doesn’t want me to touch his car. He kind of cringes when I ask, besides, I didn’t really have anywhere to go. So I had to find a way to entertain myself today, plus I had mushy bananas. Free time + Mushy bananas = Banana Nut Muffins, Oh Yeah!

So, over ripe bananas is something that I have to deal with everyone once in a while. I’m not usually a picky eater, but a mushy spotted banana is something I just can’t deal with. I like mine spotless and bright yellow, a little green is even ok. Once they start to get spots, it’s time for plan b. I’ve tried lots of different recipes, for breads and muffins and cookies, but was never really crazy about it. I found a recipe by Tyler Florence today to try and it is the best so far. I’ll be keeping this recipe dor future reference. The best part about the banana muffin project, is that my house smells wonderful.

Date Night @ Alex Box…

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

I tried the last couple days to get tickets online, but supposedly the game was sold out. But Wes and I rode out there anyway to see if we could get some extra seats or standing room only, and what do you know, they had seats at the box office. So we got some pretty great seats in section 104. Which was between 1st base and right field. It was a hot spot for foul balls too, but I didn’t get one. It was a good close game, but in the end Illinois pulled off the win 3-1 over the Tigers. First LSU game I’ve been to where they lost, but it was still fun. And the new Alex Box Stadium is beautiful.
