Track day…

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Wes and I and the rest of the crew went out to State Capital raceway yesterday to play with our toys. We brought Kayla with us this time. I didn’t know how she would react to all the loud noise, but she did great. She ran around and cheered all the drivers on by yelling, “Go Go Go”. After a couple hours she’d worn herself out and passed out on Wes. I don’t know how she slept through all that noise, but she did. It never phased her.

As for my car, we made 5 passes. My best of the day was a 13.49, but Wes ran a 13.38 ( show off). I did however, have a pretty impressive burnout on the last run. It’s nice to borrow someone else’s tires for track day, haha. We did learn from our last track night, and out wax on the back fenders. Last time, it took Wes and I the better part of an hour to scrub all the melted rubber off the paint.

I’m really anxious to pass inspection so I can put some new stuff on my car. Wes  brought it by Saturday morning and failed for the 2nd time.

The Eagles…

Last night, I went to my first rock concert. I’m not really a big crowd person and there aren’t a whole lot of people that I would pay outrages ticket prices, drive to New Orleans and fight 20,000 people to see, but The Eagles are one of them. They just happen to be my all time favorite band. It was an interesting night to say the least. We had an interesting character sitting behind us that did eventually get arrested, I think there were applause when he was being escorted away. Never a dull moment in N.O. Anyway, even though the band is as old as dirt, they played a rocking show. They played about 6 songs off their new album, Long Road Out Of Eden, but everything else was their hits like, Lying Eyes, Life in the Fast Lane , Witchy Woman, and Life’s Been Good To Me ( which might have been one of the best songs of the night). There are so many of their songs that I love, but Hotel California will always be my #1. If they do come back to N.O. I will go again and next time I’ll have better seats.

A new look…

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

It’s definitely no secret and I’ll be the first to admit it, I was not born with a decorative gene. You can tell by my home decor, I just don’t have an eye for it. So when others enjoy redecorating their homes, it’s more of a chore for me. I’m trying to give Kayla’s room a fresh new look. Since she has graduated to the toddler bed, I wanted to brighten it up a bit and tone down the nursery look. I decided to go with a spring theme, bright colors accented with flowers and butterflies. Finding a comforter that fit the bed and also went with the theme, proved to be impossible. But lucky for us, we have Nana.

She whipped up this comfortor, pillows and dust ruffle in one afternoon! It’s exactly what I wanted, I love it.  We went to Hobby Lobby and found some butterflies and flowers in the garden section that matched.  I trimmed the strings off the butterfly and pinned it to the curtains. I think I’ll go back and get another one for the other side.

So here is my dilemma, I bought these flowers strings, that I intended to hang over on the curtains. But it just didn’t look right. Now, I don’t know what to do with them. See picture below. They are about 4 ft long and have 5 flowers on each strand. The only thing I can think to do with them is cut them off the string and pin them to the curtains like the butterfly. But I am open to suggestions. If you have an idea, please send it my way.

Right now, they are hanging on the ceiling fan.  I can’t leave them up there much longer, little hands are almost tall enough to reach.

And one other thing. I’ve been eying these canvas prints at Target for months. Now that I want them, they don’t have them anymore and I can’t find them on the website. Does anyone know where I can get some nice canvas paintings without paying an arm and a leg? At the Broadmoor craft show, I saw a booth that painted your name on canvas while you waited. But she wanted $60 for like a 1′ x 2′ painting. For that, I could learn how to paint and do it myself.

That is my new UPR Cold Air Intake. And yes to answer your question, I did install it myself with a little coaching from my genius hubby. It was really easy, didn’t take more than 30 minutes to install. Hopefully this week, I’ll get my H-pipe for my exhaust installed, but I’m gonna let the pro’s at TPS handle that one.  Then I should be good to go for the track this weekend. We’re going to State Capital on the 25th if anyone wants to come out with us.  I’m hoping to beat my previous track time.

On a related note, I finally got my plate in yesterday. It only took 2 months and 2 affidavits. You gotta love the state of LA and the DMV, they know how to get you from every angle.

Kayla’s new specks…

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

If you didn’t already know, I had to take Kayla to the eye doctor last week to get her eyes checked. Turns out, she is very near sighted and needs glasses.  I didn’t really know what they would look like on her, since she is so tiny, we didn’t have a whole lot of options. 2 options to be precise. Waited a week and were able to pick them up today.

Surprisingly, she leaves them on more than I thought she would. She’s still not crazy about them, but hopefully she will forget about them and stop launching them at me.

When she put them on for the first time, she kind of looked around in awe, like she was looking at the world for the first time. We have to keep a close eye on her for the first few days, her depth perception is a little off. She’s run into the bar stool, couch and wall this afternoon. I’ve been trying to figure out who she looks like with them, and I think I have it….Chicken little.  Am I right?

Why should we have to choose?

By far one of my favorite blogs is Bakeralla, she always features the yummiest looking recipes along with pretty pictures and sometimes giveaways. Yesterday was no exception, she featured this cookie dough brownie recipe. I made some yesterday and they are out of this world good. Couldn’t find my camera, so no pics of mine, but they came out looking like hers. My only exception was I omitted the chocolate ganache on top, I didn’t have the ingredients at the house. While I am sure they are even more delicious with extra chocolate on top, they were still great without it. So next time you have a sweet tooth and you are trying to decide between brownies or cookies, have them both.

The Great Escape…

Wes and I set up a camera in Kayla’s room today, we just had to see how she did it. This is what we found. Then I had some fun playing and editing on my Mac. Enjoy!

Track Night…

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Took the Stang out to No Problem Raceway last night. This is my first run, I ran a 13.81. Little disappointed in that. Didn’t get the tires hot enough, so I spun out a little. Wes took the next two runs with a 13.49 and a 13.68. Then they shut the track down, so I didn’t get to go again. I made up for it on the interstate though, raced and beat a 350Z. State Capital opens Jan 25, we’ll probably be out there. By then, I should have my cold air intake on and hope to see some better numbers.

FAIL…

I sincerely hope this is not our military!

It’s too early, isn’t it?

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Even though Kayla won’t be 2 for another three months, I have decided that she hit her terrible twos this week. How did I come to this conclusion you ask? Well it could have something to do with the fact that she almost swallowed Wes’ wedding ring last night, or that I caught her trying to drown her cabbage patch doll in the toilet this morning. Not enough evidence? How about today at lunch when she shoved her peas up her nose?  Am I just being cynical or are we in for a long year?
