Definitely worth the wait…

I’m usually not much of a cookie baker, I have better luck with Cupcakes and candy, but these were awesome. I think these are the best cookies I’ve ever baked :)   I’ll be shareing these with a few lucky individuals to get some outside opinions. These are semi-sweet and walnut, I’m still playing with the recipe, I’m thinking next batch should be dark chocolate, cranberry and almond. But first I have to get a new cookie scoop, this dough is super thick and broke my brand new scoop. Must find a sturdy one.

Good things come to those who wait…

That’s what I hear anyway. I’ve had this recipe that I’ve wanted to try for a long time, bust just haven’t gathered the ingredients. Its one of those everything plus the kitchen sink cookie recipes. I read the ingredients and not the directions so after I mixed it all up last night, I read the part about having to refrigerate the dough overnight. All I can say is the dough is delicious.

But if you are like and me and like instant gratification, I had the perfect solution…

These are a non-bakers dream ( and maybe for a baker that doesn’t want to clean the kitchen ). Everything is in the box, even a  disposable pan for even easier clean up. All you add is butter and water, and you have instant dessert. We’ve tried the Almond Joy and the Reeses Peanut Butter, they are both great. There is also a Heath Bar for all you toffee lovers out there.

To be continued: ( with an update on the cookies)

Supersized Weekend…

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

Ok, well maybe it was just an average sized weekend, but it seemed bigger because we were so busy. Friday night was the return of date night. Wes and are both tired and sick, but I’d been cooped up in the house all week and had to get out. So we went to Fish City Grill in Perkins Rowe. It was very good. First time we’d been there. We shared a platter of king crab legs and boiled shrimp. Not exactly the cleanest thing you can order on a date, but who are we trying to impress anyway. After that, we claimed the comfy couch at Starbucks and read our books.

Yesterday started out really early for me, I was up for 7am. That is early for a weekday, but for a weekend it’s just unheard of. I was off to another 5k at LSU. It was  a beautiful day for it too. Nice and cool. Holly and I finished in 50 minutes. That’s 2 minutes faster than last time. I’m kind of getting hooked on these things, the next one is November 1st in Gonzales. I plan to be there. Holly and I were throwing around the idea of actually running one next spring.

Finally today, Wes and I took Kayla to Boo at the Zoo. Again, such nice weather. And she couldn’t have been any cuter in her Dorothy costume. I designed the shoes myself. If you happen to go the Baton Rouge Zoo this week, you should be able to follow our exact path as I am sure there is a trail of red glitter. Oh well, I guess shoe designer isn’t my calling. That’s why Manolo Blahnik makes the big bucks.  I’ll leave you with a few picks of Dorothy enjoying her loot.

Oh and this was her 5 minutes after we got in the car to go home.

Just a little one to get you through the day…

Nothing too exciting here. I’ve been keeping busy working at the Livingston Parish Fair this weekend. Yesterday I did a little bit of everything, but today I will mostly be mixing up funnel cake mix from home. Took me 4 hours to make 14 gallons last night and I got a call this morning that they used it ALL. So I will be attempting to make about 40 gallons today. You do the math and tell me how long that’s going to take. No really you do the math, I don’t feel like thinking. I am fighting a major sinus infection. So I actually happy to be working in the air condition for the majority of the day. I will be out at the fair tonight though. So if you are in the area stop by and get a funnel cake and say Hi.

Great weekend…

Sitting here by myself, just put Kayla to bed, thinking about making some tea. This weekend flew by, but it was a great one. Had fun yesterday hanging out with Susie out at LSU, where I did my fist 5K. It was a lot of fun and I now have all the upcoming races marked on my calendar for the next 6 months.  Wes and I had our date night last night too. We’ve both been busy doing our own thing, it’s weird that we live together, but don’t see that much of each other.  It was nice hanging out with my hubby. We had dinner at his favorite spot, Voodoo BBQ. Then we played pool and watched football at our favorite hang out Fox and the Hound. We did all that and were home by 8:30pm. What can I say, we’re getting old.

Today we stayed around the house. Played outside with Kayla. She loves to play outside. She’d stay out there all day if we let her. But she has my fair skin, so we have to limit her sunlight. She just amazes me so. She is such a good baby. She is learning things really quickly. Tonight we just kinda hung out since Wes is working at the shop. She had a bubble bath which she loves.  And she ate a ton of raisins, which I think is her new favorite food. And most impressively, I said, ” Kayla, are you ready to go night night?”, and she went to her room and looked at her bed. I never have any problems putting her down to sleep.  I am worried that she won’t be as easy when she gets her big girl bed. Which will be coming pretty soon, since she is almost climbing out of her baby bed.

What What!!!

I have a little too much energy right now. I just finished my first 5K ever. It was for JDRF. It was so last minute, I literally found out about it yesterday. We did awesome. We came in top 20. Don’t know what exact place because we didn’t stick around. But we did it in 52 minutes.  It was the perfect day for it. I think I got the fever now, I’m ready to go do another one. Have to look and see if they have any more this fall. If you know of any, let me know.
