The calm before the storm…

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Wes and I have done about all we can do. Now we’re just kind of sitting around waiting for Gustav. It’s really hard to believe we are about to get pounded by a hurricane in less that 24 hours. You would never know it to go outside on this sunny day.  I went to Target and the Fruit stand while Wes took care of the yard stuff. Target was a mad house as you can imagine. But even worse so, because Walmart was closed. I don’t know why, maybe they ran out of stuff to sell. I didn’t actually wait till the last minute as it sounds, I went Friday and got a bunch of canned soups and Spaghetti O’s and water, but as the storm gets closer and panic sets in, I figured I’d better go get some more.
I think we decided we’re just going to ride out the storm here. I’m not too worried about flooding. This is my main concern…

And I couldn’t even get all in the shot, ( unless I went across the street). It goes up another 50 or so feet. We lost one tree in Katrina, I really hope this one doesn’t come down. It doesn’t take much of a wind to know huge branches out of it. So I will be watching it closely. Hopefully if it does fall, it will fall the other way.

I think we’re planning on having a Lord of the Rings marathon, at least as long as the power holds. After that, the iPods and Nintendo DS’ are charged and ready to go. I hope Kayla doesn’t panic if the lights go out. I couldn’t find any unscented candles, so I have all my Yankee candles and similar brands out. We’ll have to organize the scents in each room, otherwise we are going to have a major headache.

Don’t tell me you didn’t see this one coming. With all the pink we dress her in, she was bound to be a diva. Even though Halloween is 2 months away, it’s never to early to start preparing the costume. This is on that Aunt Dee sent. Isn’t it cute? Kayla didn’t know what to make of the skirt.

In other Kayla news, she discovered she liked spaghetti. She also discovered she likes throwing it on the floor even more. See how hilarious she thought was. I was not laughing while I was cleaning it out of her hair and high chair. At least I have Prissy and Maggie to clean it off the floor for me.

Finally, in Non-Kayla news. Wes and I went to see Death Race this weekend and it was awesome. Best movie I’ve seen in a long time.

Update

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Man, its been like 3 weeks since I posted last. I just haven’t had much to say. I’ve been preoccupied with other things. I’ve sat here many hours lately, but haven’t had much to blog about. Kayla is still a mess. She is a daredevil and with that comes many bumps and bruises. It looks like we beat her this week, when in fact she just had a rough day Sunday. She had a big bruise on her forehead from where she pulled the barstool on top of her. She has found joy in taking every single toy out her toy box and strewing them throughout the house. It’s definitely not safe to walk around in the dark. She likes to hide things too. I find stuff in the couch cushions and in cabinets. We actually lost one of her cups about a week ago, I turned the house upside down looking for it. She found it yesterday and confirmed my fear that it did in fact have milk on it. I don’t think I need to elaborate further on that.

See what happens when I don’t post for a while, I end up rambling.

To answer Bekah’s and my other 2 reader’s question, I never made it to day 14 on the whitening strips. In fact I never made it to day 4. By day 3, the strips really hurt my teeth when I put them on. Like a burning sensation, sort of like sensitivity to cold or hot. Maybe that was saying it was working but I didn’t like it. I waited a couple days and tried it again with the same result. I don’t think they are any whiter and I have a half a box of whitening strips. Maybe I’ll get brave and try again.

On another note, California Pizza Kitchen finally opened. I can’t wait to go. Wes and I are thinking next date night. Has anyone been yet? Let me know how it is.

5 years…

This was us, 5 years ago today. So young, so in love, so naive. Some people thought we were too young to get married, but we knew better. At 21 & 20, we took the plunge and haven’t looked back. We’ve accomplished a lot in 5 years, Wes graduated college, we bought our first house, both changed jobs, we have a beautiful little girl, and we’ve managed not to kill the other one in their sleep. Even though we’ve probably both thought about it a time or two. I’ve heard people say the first 5 years are the hardest, if so, than I guess its smooth sailing ahead. These last 5 years have been good to us, and  I know we have many more exciting times ahead.

Thank you to all of you who were there for us that day.

So, the 5 year anniversary is the “Wood Anniversary.” I’m not really sure who came up with that or what it’s supposed to mean. We decided to make this the ” Time Anniversary.” Believe it or not, we’re pretty busy people. Mostly Wes, but me sometimes. We have a lot going on and its hard for us to really spend time together. Even when we’re home, we’re usually doing different things, like chasing Kayla. Lucky we do have our date night, thanks to Nana. Kayla is spending the day and tonight with Nana and Wes and I have taken the day to spend together rather than presents. We ran errands and went to lunch, played some  pool, had some chocolate and Starbucks, even went shopping.  We’ve had a really nice day so far.

But anyway, I am happy to be married to such a wonderful man. Wes is truly unique, ( in a good way). It has been a great 5 years!
