Drive-by gnoming…

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

Apparently someone reads my blog. Last weekend I posted about my garden lacking a gnome and today we discovered a new addition to our garden. We don’t know how long he’s been there or where he came from, but he is kind of cute. Thank you to our secret gnomer.

It was such a nice day yesterday that Kayla and I decided to spend a little time in the hammock. She seems to enjoy it as much as I do. Good thing, ’cause thats where I plan on spending a good part of my summer. I have found that since I rarely leave the house, I have little to post about other than diapers and sleepless nights. I don’t want to bore my thousands of loyal readers, so I try to steer clear of those details. Date night was last night. Wes and I being the old folks that we are, had dinner at 5:30pm. Yes, its true, Wes and I have aged overnight. Poor Wes goes to bed at 9:00 now. I would too, however I have found it to be more difficult to get out of bed once I have gotten in than if I just stayed up. So, I usually go to bed after her midnight feeding and let Dad take the 3am shift.

Date night was great though. We went to Texas Roadhouse, ( which has become one of my favorite Baton Rouge eateries). Then we went to Lowes where I finally purchased Wes’ birthday present, only 2 months late. Wes bought all the supplies to put gutters on the front of the house. Then we went over to Target / Starbucks where we sat and talked to the barista. You can always count on Starbucks to hire interesting people and this guy is no exception. All in all, I look forward to date night each week. Not that I don’t love spending all day with Kayla, but sometimes Mommy needs a break. :)

We are going out tonight to the Bicentennial celebration for Ascension Parish. There is a big to do all weekend at the Lamar Dixon Expo. Bands, food, rides, car shows, etc. My parents are camping out there all weekend, so we are going to go out there for a little while. Mom said she’ll watch Kayla while We go see Cowboy Mouth and Tracy Lawrence perform.

I think she was in shock when we put her in the water. She didn’t mind the water, I think it was she scrubbing that she didn’t appreciate. She didn’t cry though, she just made some mean faces at us.

Our weekend is almost over. I like the weekends more now that I don’t work than when I did. I really like it when Wes is home, I have someone to talk to, or rather someone who talks back.

It just needs a gnome…

Look, I have plants in my garden! For the last 6 months or so its just been dirt. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law came over yesterday and overhauled our garden. Just because. Wes and I are much appreciative. Neither of us have a green thumb, ( and everyone knows, I don’t do yard stuff). I think it looks fabulous. My goal is basically not to kill it, but I took a picture to remember how it looked, just in case.

Other than that, My mom and I took Kayla to her 2 week check up. Dr. said everything looks great. She’s up to 7lbs 9 oz. Next time we go back it will be for her first round of shots. I am sure there will be whining and crying, Kayla probably won’t be too happy either. Fortunately we have a month and a half to psych ourselves up for it.

Date night…

Wes and I got out of the house tonight. Wes got a babysitter and took me out to the mall and the Cheesecake Bistro for dinner. He even bought me some new clothes. One of the highlights of the evening was that I actually fit into my pre-maternity jeans. I was ecstatic. Even though Wes and I had little to talk about other than Kayla, we definitely enjoyed a little time together. We did miss our little Kayla though, who didn’t seem to notice we were gone.

Ooooohhhhhhh……….

Kayla was wide awake for most of the day today. I needed to take some pictures of her in this little outfit because she will probably not wear it again. Its brand new, but she was a little cramped in it. Poor thing couldn’t straighten her legs. She is tall and skinny just like her daddy. I just love her facial expressions, they are priceless. Her mouth is always moving. Wes and I are thinking that might not be the greatest thing when she starts talking. I guess she’ll be a motor mouth just like her mother. I love being able to stay home with her. I am ready to venture out into the world with her though. Wes and I took a trip to Target last night just to get out of the house. I don’t think I’ll be abiding by the, “No driving for 3 weeks”, rule. I just don’t know how early is too early to take her out. The last thing I want is to expose her to germs and have her get sick. Oh, breaking news, her naval thing fell off last night, or I think it had a little help from her pj’s. Nevertheless, its gone and we’re happy about it.

Kayla’s first outing…

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

Well, I got to venture out of the house today. Kayla had her first Dr.’s appointment this morning. Since I can’t drive for 3 weeks, my mom was kind enough to sleep over last night and drive me. Dr. said she looks great, she even gained a few ounces which is good. She weighs 6 lbs 13 oz now. After that, we went to Babies R Us and Target. I have missed Target, its been more than a week since I’ve been there, that is a stretch for me. I would have been happy to go anywhere though. As much as I love staying home, it was nice to get out of the house. Once I can drive, Kayla and I are going to have to do weekly outings to keep Mommy from going stir crazy. Any suggestions? I was thinking what a great place the mall would be, dry, air conditioned, semi-quiet and I can push her around in her stroller. I am sure Wes would appreciate it if we took less expensive trips, and I guess even I could get tired of the mall eventually. I am sure we’ll think of something.

In other news, Prissy escaped last Sunday and we didn’t think we were going to get her back. Wes did some cleaning in the back yard and cleared some weeds out from our back fence, in doing so it created just enough space for the dogs to sneak through. Maggie, the somewhat obedient one escaped and didn’t go past the front yard. Prissy on the other hand went at least 3 streets over and was instantly adopted by a family with 2 boys. She was gone all day, we drove around looking for her, but no luck. I was pretty heartbroken. About 7pm that night, someone brought her home. We had told our neighbors we were looking for her and the people that found her knew them and coincidently went to their house that afternoon and was telling them how they found this cute little dog with no collar and were gonna keep it. ( They had a bath that morning, which is why they weren’t wearing a collar) Our neighbors told them that was funny because we had lost our dog and had been looking for it all day. So they were nice enough to come over and see if she was ours. They had already given her another bath and bought her food. (Not that she could ever be mistaken for a starving dog). But enough was enough, Wes got on the internet and ordered an electric fence. We set it up yesterday and the dogs have yet to touch it that we know of. Wes tested it out and assured me it is working, so I think they will be in for quite a shock, (pun intended), when they try to escape again. We just hope we are there to witness it. :)
